Book Review: Atomic Habits by James Clear

"You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." - Atomic Habits, James Clear

Atomic Habits by James Clear
★★★★★

I picked up this book because deep down I knew the reason I wasn't doing the things I constantly say I want to do was not for a lack of motivation but because I had rooted habits that kept me repeating old behaviors over and over again.

My husband said to me one day, "If you want things to be different, do different things." It simply didn't feel that easy, all things said and done. So I searched for a book that might help give me a different perspective.

While it is still early days, I have made some major changes to my morning routine. I already have some good habits in my morning routine, but the order of how I was doing them left me feeling unproductive and unable to incorporate better or new habits.

This book is filled with many, many A-HA moments and clearly described reasoning for specific behaviors. The deeper I went with this book, the more clarity I felt about why I do the things I do. It is rooted in process and systems (two words that make me feel giddy and excited inside) and feels manageable to incorporate.

A recurring theme in my life and even my writing (#IYKYN), it all comes down to the power of small changes over time.

"Motivation is often the result of action, not the cause of it." - Atomic Habits
